Body donation

Knowledge of anatomy, i.e. the internal structure of the human body, is an indispensable basis for medical training. Future doctors can only acquire a sound knowledge of anatomy by systematically dissecting human body donations.

At the Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences (KL), it is possible for people resident in Lower and Upper Austria to make their body available to KL for teaching and research after their death. For this purpose, a written, contractual agreement must be made during one's lifetime and a body donation card must be issued.

After the body donation has been used in teaching and research, a cremation takes place and the ashes are buried in KL's grave of honour at the Waldfriedhof St. Pölten. On special request, the ashes can also be handed over to relatives in a separate urn.

If you are interested in donating your body to the Karl Landsteiner Private University for Health Sciences, please contact Ms Christina Penz, BA (Body Donations, Contact Point for Donors) for detailed information.
