Background
As a pilot project of APOG-NÖ, a working group is being set up to investigate the role of transcription factors, convergence points of oncological signal transduction pathways, in the development, progression and therapy resistance of tumour diseases, using acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) and multiple myeloma (MM) as examples. The aim is the derived development of new diagnostics, prognostics and therapeutics. This pilot project of the APOG-NÖ is intended to lay the foundation for translational oncological research in Lower Austria. The vision for the future is to establish further APOG-NÖ priority programmes (e.g. Structural and Functional Genome Research, Tumour Immunology, Applied Cell Biology), which will also cover all other tumour entities in a closely networked manner. The aim is to establish a nationally and, in the long term, internationally recognised centre of excellence for oncology in Lower Austria. With this development, APOG-NÖ will contribute to increasing Lower Austria's attractiveness as a research, teaching and working location for future physicians/oncologists, haematologists and natural scientists, and at the same time position itself as a high-quality innovation and business location for the constantly growing biopharmaceutical industry.
