New shareholders in the KL support structure

The Karl Landsteiner University has changed two of its four partners: New members are MedAustron and the Province of Lower Austria.

The original sponsors of Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences (KL), founded in 2013, were Medical University of Vienna, Vienna University of Technology, Danube University Krems and IMC University of Applied Sciences in equal parts. This week, the immediate neighbours IMC and DUK took their leave as partners, their shares were taken over by the Wiener Neustadt Ion Therapy Institute MedAustron and the Province of Lower Austria.

Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner sees the participation as "a great opportunity to further promote medical education in Lower Austria and to prevent an impending shortage of doctors in good time. At the same time, it is of utmost importance to support high-quality and modern research in order to guarantee health care with the best standards".

MedAustron Chairman of the Supervisory Board Klaus Schneeberger is pleased about the cooperation with KL: "The participation in Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences underlines that we believe in the excellent scientific and research institutions in the country. Here we have the opportunity to jointly create new standards in medical education, research and therapy".

MedAustron researches and treats with ion therapy for cancer therapy. An innovative form of radiation therapy (ion therapy, particle therapy) in which protons and carbon ions are used. Compared to conventional radiation therapy, this is more gentle on the surrounding healthy tissue.

"Our retiring partners Donau-Universität Krems and IMC FH Krems have provided KL with great help in the foundation and development process of the university, which we as the youngest university on the Krems campus appreciate enormously," so KL Rector Rudolf Mallinger.
