First time Erasmus exchange scientist at KL University

At the beginning of December we had the pleasure of welcoming our first exchange scientist within the framework of the Erasmus programme "Staff Mobility For Training" at KL University in the field of Water Quality and Health.

Sílvia Monteiro from the Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon learned at KL University new DNA analysis methods (high throughput sequencing and bioinformatics) for the investigation of the bacterial composition of water. The exchange took place in the course of the scientific cooperation between ICC Water and Health (www.waterandhealth.at), which is a cooperation between KL University, TU Vienna, Med Uni Vienna and the Instituto Superior Técnico de Lisboa. A further strengthening of the interaction between the two institutions is planned for the future. A joint project submission within the framework of COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) is planned for the upcoming year. A further exchange is planned in advance - this time a colleague from the Department of Water Quality and Health at KL University will continue his education in Portugal.
