Early adolescents' perspectives on factors that facilitate

... and hinder friendship development with peers at the time of school transition.

Recent publication

The work of the scientific working group D.O.T. (The Open Door) examines facilitating and hindering factors for the formation of friendships during the transition from primary school to lower school. The researchers chose a new approach and actively involved pupils in their analysis. In this way, the results reflect those factors that the early adolescents themselves consider important for the formation of friendships and thus also expand the existing literature on the topic. For the survey, 916 pupils aged nine to 16 participated in 54 participative workshops in Austria. Interesting results were generated.

The research was funded by the Ludwig Boltzmann Society for Open Innovation for Science, the Karl Landsteiner University for Health Sciences and the Gesellschaft für Forschungsförderung NÖ (research promotion agency of the province of Lower Austria) and results have been published freely available in the Journal of School Psychology thanks to KL open access funding.
