Controversies in orthopaedic oncology

Recent publication

The Birmingham Orthopaedic Oncology Meeting  (BOOM) took place in January 2024. Over 300 experts from more than 50 different countries discussed the diagnosis and treatment of both chondrosarcoma and of periprosthetic joint infection in oncological reconstructions. Although chondrosarcoma is a common bone disease, standardised treatment guidelines are missing and the manamgent of complications is controversial. The expert panel worked on global, uniform standards and documented unresolved controversies to promotecollaborative research projects and gain evidence and expertise. The development of standards  will improve diasease management and increase patient survival. Clin Assoc Prof PD Dr Dietmar Dammerer, MSc PhD,  Head of the Division of Orthopaedics and Traumatology at Krems University Hospital, is a member of the expert panel.
