Dagmar Stoiber-Sakaguchi Professor for Pharmacology at KL University

The new year brought the start of the Division of Pharmacology with our Professor of Pharmacology, Dr. Dagmar Stoiber-Sakaguchi.

Prof. Stoiber-Sakaguchis research interests include new tumor models to study hematopoietic but also solid neoplasms. She focuses on investigating tumor development as well as the interaction of the immune system with the evolving tumor, with a particular interest in signal transduction. Emphasis is placed on components of JAK/STAT signaling and especially type I interferon signaling in tumor development and immune surveillance.

She studied Biology (Microbiology) at the University of Vienna and did her habilitation in “Pharmacology” at the Medical University of Vienna on “Molecular mechanisms involved in the process of macrophage activation induced by interferon-gamma and infectious microorganisms or their products”.

Before joining Karl Landsteiner University Prof. Stoiber-Sakaguchi was a key researcher at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Cancer Research (LBI-CR), Vienna and worked as  university assistant at the Institute of Pharmacology at Medical University of Vienna.

Ms Stoiber Sakaguchi has been awarded the Heribert-Konzett Prize of the Austrian Pharmacological Society, the Sanofi-Aventis Prize, the Scholarship of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and the Scholarship for excellent performance of the University of Vienna.

She is a member of several scientific organizations such as European Hematology Association (EHA), Austrian Pharmacological Society (APHAR), European Academy for Tumor Immunology (EATI), Austrian Association of Molecular Life Sciences and Biotechnology (ÖGMBT).

Prof. Stoiber-Sakaguchi contributes her expert opinion to Haematologica, Immunology letters, Current Cancer Drug Targets, Oncotarget, Frontiers in Immunology; Anniversary Fund of the Austrian Nationalbank, Human Frontiers Science Program and is Member of the Editorial board of Cytokine.
