Ceremonial act for the 5th anniversary of KL University

Today KL University celebrated its 5th anniversary with many celebrities in a festive ceremony.

With 130 guests from science, medicine, politics, research and industry, the Karl Landsteiner University celebrated its fifth birthday today in the new university building in Krems. When it was founded, Lower Austria's only medical university was already a pioneer in the two-stage Bachelor-Master degree of medical studies in Austria.

In her speech, Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner praised the role of the Karl Landsteiner University as an "important building block in Lower Austria's education and research landscape", particularly because the path to its foundation was not without obstacles: "But as we know, the most difficult births produce the most beautiful children". The KL had already written a success story in the first five years, and the plans for the future were also great, said Mikl-Leitner: "In order to expand the framework conditions for clinical research, we are investing six million euros; this further development will also set new standards for cooperation".

In an entertaining interview with moderator Martin Haidinger of Ö1 Wissenschaftsredaktion, the chairman of the university council, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schütz, reviewed the founding modalities: "As Meduni Wien was unable to prevent a private university, we wanted to be partners from the very beginning. One of the conditions was that the curriculum in the medical field had to be in bachelor-master mode right from the start. According to Schütz, this is nowadays a prerequisite for every new medical degree course to be accredited.

KL Rector Univ.-Prof.Dr Rudolf Mallinger gave a look at the future projects: "Cooperation and international orientation in teaching and research will be a major focus and we are paying particular attention to the support of clinical research". In addition, Mallinger expressly acknowledged the indispensable role of the team of teachers and staff, without whom the success of the young university would not be possible.

The keynote speech was given by the allergologist and "inveterate Lower Austrian" (self-definition) Prof. Dr. Rudolf Valenta on the subject of vaccination research and allergies, not without addressing an appeal for the support of the young scientists also in the direction of politics.

As a symbol for the importance of the city of Krems as an educational location, the tourism school of the city of Krems finally presented itself with a large birthday cake.

Currently, around 400 students are studying health sciences (in English), human medicine, psychology and psychotherapy & consulting at KL Private University in Krems. Through the network of the university clinics St.Pölten, Tulln and Krems, teaching at the KL is largely carried out by medical practitioners; in the master's courses, students are taught directly at the bedside in small groups. Over the next few years, the number of students is expected to increase to 1,000.

In research, the KL concentrates specifically on niche fields in health-politically relevant bridge disciplines such as biomechanics, psychology and the topic of water quality and the associated health aspects.
