Career prospects

The successful completion of the Bachelor’s degree is an essential requirement for admission to the Master’s degree in Psychology. However, it does not entitle the student to use the professional title of psychologist or to practise independently as a psychologist within the meaning of the Austrian Psychologists Act (PslG). The degree entitles the holder to work in the field of psychology as an employee under professional guidance.

The curriculum of the Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at KL has been revised in accordance with the new requirements for psychotherapy training in Germany and, in its current form, meets the admission requirements for the Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy in Germany. The reform of psychotherapy training in Germany stipulates that students who wish to do a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy after completing a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology must cover specific content and a prescribed number of courses. This means that the Bachelor’s degree prepares students for a future career as a psychotherapist. (Law on the Reform of Psychotherapist Training, Federal Law Gazette, 2019, Part I, no. 40, issued in Bonn on 22 November 2019). We are happy to provide you with further details of combining the Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at KL’s Krems campus with the Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy in Germany (admission@kl.ac.at).
