Microdata from Austria and Europe accessible for KL researchers
Non-interventional studies and real-world data analyses are getting more and more important. Since March, the Karl Landsteiner University for Health Sciences has been successfully accredited by both the Austrian Micro Data Center (AMDC) and Eurostat, the European statistical office.
Researchers at KL can now access Austrian and European statistics and data in cooperation with the Department of Biostatistics and Data Science and use them to answer scientific questions. Access is considered to boost data-driven research at an international level. "With the successful accreditation with the statistical authorities, we have access to socio-demographic and medical data from the European Union and Austria," explains Univ.-Prof. Dr. Ing. Sascha Klee, Head of the Department of Biostatistics and Data Science. He is the contact person for KL scientists who want to analyse data from one of the registries.
Eurostat´s mission is to provide high-quality statistics. The institution of the European Union with its base in Luxembourg addresses research institutions as one of its main client groups. The European statistical office was founded as early as 1953 and has developed steadily, with milestones in 2004, when data could be processed for research purposes for the first time, and in 2009 when the Regulation on European Statistics was adopted. The Austrian Micro Data Center (AMDC) of Statistics Austria has been online since 1 July 2022 and is the Austrian counterpart to the European statistical office. Austrian register data and public sector data can be accessed for answering research questions by accredited institutions.
