First live broadcast of an ear surgery in Lower Austria
Three ear operations were transmitted live from the University Hospital St.Pölten to the KL Auditorium on the occasion of the 14th ENT Danube Symposium.
As part of the pre-symposium for the 14th ENT Danube Symposium, a premiere took place today at KL University. Three ear operations were transmitted live from the operating room at the University Hospital St.Pölten. The sound was transmitted from the operating theatre as well as from the lecture hall, enabling interactive participation for the 50 participants from ten different countries. During the operations, implants of inner ear and middle ear were made. The initiator Prof.Dr. Georg Matthias Sprinzl, Primarius of the University Hospital for Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases in St.Pölten, sees an innovative concept in the live broadcast: "We show future-oriented surgical techniques that can be brought closer to both doctors and students in a direct and immediate way".
The 14th ENT Danube Symposium of the Danube Society of Oto-, Rhino-, Laryngology forms the framework for this unique action in Lower Austria. This year, the traditional congress series will be held in Austria from June 21-23, 2018 for the first time in the last 25 years, every four years in the Danube region. The next venue is 2022 Budapest.The diversity of ear, nose and throat medicine will be presented at the symposium. There are invited ("state of the art") lectures, poster presentations, meet the experts and mini-symposia in an open and collegial atmosphere to give younger colleagues in particular a good overview of the diversity of the subject and current research. The event has 275 participants from 20 countries. The declared aim is to create space for lively and open discussions. The IMC Krems University of Applied Sciences and the Karl Landsteiner Private University for Health Sciences are the venues.
