The Competence Centre Gerontology was also represented at the Open University on 11 March 2023 and informed interested visitors about social demographic developments and active ageing in Lower Austria.

We congratulate our research assistant Katrin Lehner on her successful Master's degree at the Institute of Sociology at the University of Vienna! Ms. Lehner BA, MA graduated with flying colours with a thesis entitled "You already learn to deal with it" - widowhood between emancipation and limitation. The thesis can be viewed on request. The project "Active into old age" of the Competence Centre was presented on 26 September 2022 at a press conference in St. Pölten with Provincial Councillor Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister and Professor Franz Kolland. Information was provided on the demographic development of Lower Austria, services for very old Lower Austrians and best practice examples from the province, which promote the activity and self-care of very old people.

Between 8 and 9 September 2022, Dr Vera Gallistl attended the Fourth International Workshop on Socio-gerontechnology in Bristol, where she presented a paper on "What is an Algorithm? Expanding gerontology's imagination on Aging and Algorithms", which met with great interest. A new Special Interest Group Ageing Bodies, AI and Technology was also founded out of the workshop, which aims at international networking and cooperation on the topics of age(s) and artificial intelligence (09/2022). 

The team of the Competence Centre Gerontology and Health Research is pleased to announce that in the course of the annual conference of the German Society for Gerontology and Geriatrics in Frankfurt am Main (12-15 September 2022), a new working group of Section III Social and Behavioural Gerontology on the topic of Material Gerontology was founded, with Drin Vera Gallistl involved in its conception and submission. The first event of the working group, a panel on "Risk Things - Materialisations of Age(s) in the Risk Society", also took place at the conference (09/2022).

On 24 and 25 June 2022, the international section conference on "Cultural Gerontology - Perspectives on Age(n)" took place on the premises of the Karl Landsteiner Private University Krems in cooperation with the section Age(n) and Society of the German Society for Sociology (DGS) and the Austrian Society for Geriatrics and Gerontology (ÖGG) (06/2022).

The Competence Centre Gerontology and Health Research is looking for reinforcement! From July 2022, we are looking for a research assistant to participate in the funded research project "ALGOCARE - Algorithmic Governance of Care", which deals with algorithm-based care. The position is limited to 15 hours per week for 24 months. Applications will be accepted until 5.6. 2022 (05/2022).

At this year's annual conference of the Austrian Society for Geriatrics and Gerontology, the team of the Centre for Gerontology and Health Research was strongly represented: Univ.-Prof. Mag. Dr. Franz Kolland and Rebekka Rohner BA, BA, MA presented research results on the topic of "Living in a nursing home during COVID-19", while Theresa Heidinger BSc. MSc. gave a presentation on the development of loneliness in Lower Austria during the pandemic and presented a poster on the psychological effects of Covid-19 infections in the social network (04/2022)

These projects also concern the field of care, for which the Competence Centre for Gerontology and Health Research has conducted a study (01/2022).
