Mission Statement Gerontology and Health Research

The Competence Centre Gerontology and Health Research is a multidisciplinary institution and is funded by the Lower Austrian Health and Social Fund (NÖGUS). The competence centre develops scientific foundations and findings for healthy ageing and a good quality of life in the life phase of old age.

Empirical studies are conducted on the health-related living conditions and expectations of older and very old people, with special consideration of regional living conditions. The information collected is processed statistically and serves to support modern health and care needs planning.

Existing care infrastructures are to be conceptually further developed under conditions of frailty, multimorbidity and need for care. To this end, innovative solutions are to be developed in health promotion, health care and nursing. As components of these innovative solutions, great attention is paid to assistive and smart technologies in order to ensure digital sovereignty for older population groups.

The aim of gerontological research is to explore the potential of longevity. It is about exploiting the demographic dividend. The socio-economic and socio-cultural conditions for an active lifestyle of ageing people are investigated in order to promote and maintain physical and mental health.
