Process and outcome of outpatient psychotherapies under clinically representative conditions

... in Austria: protocol and feasibility of an ongoing study

Recent publication

How effective is psychotherapy? While most studies are conducted in a clinical setting, a team of authors has investigated the extent to which symptoms are reduced following psychotherapeutic treatment in outpatient practice. The researchers took a two-pronged approach: in addition to standardised questionnaires at different points in time, semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted with patients and therapists. The study, published in the journal "Frontiers in Psychiatry", sheds light on the influence of the relationship between patient and therapist as well as hurdles in the implementation of the project. Four Austrian universities were involved in the work, with Dr Brigitte Schigl, MSc from KL as the shared lead author.
