Oral intake of solid medications in patients with post-stroke dysphagia.

 A challenge for nurses?

Recent publication

After a stroke, patients may have difficulty swallowing, which can make it difficult to administer and take medication. In 2021, an online survey was conducted among nurses in German-speaking countries. The researchers asked how the administration of solid medications to patients with swallowing difficulties after a stroke was handled in the centres. They analysed 754 responses from 195 nurses. Thanks to open access funding from KL, the study has been published in the Journal of Clinical Nursing. PhDr Michaela Trapl-Grundschober, MSc, from the Clinical Division of Neurology at KL University Hospital at Tulln is the first author of the study. Trapl-Grundschober is conducting her research as part of a Research Time Out (RTO), a funding instrument of the Forschungsimpulse. The Forschungsimpulse are a package of measures to promote clinical research at the KL University Hospitals.
