Knowledge and care regarding long-term cardiovascular risk
... after hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and gestational diabetes
Recent publication
750 women who gave birth at St. Pölten University Hospital or Lilienfeld Regional Hospital between 2015 and 2020 were contacted by a team of researchers at St. Pölten University Hospital. 161 test subjects were diagnosed with high blood pressure (pre-eclampsia) or gestational diabetes during pregnancy. Both diagnoses increase the risk of cardiovascular disease later in life. With their data, the researchers shed light on how high or low the awareness of an increased health risk is among the women affected and whether there are functioning aftercare concepts. Thanks to open access funding from KL, the work has been published freely accessible in the Wiener Klinische Wochenschrift, The Central European Journal of Medicine.
