The oral provocation test is used in the diagnosis of food allergies. Children and adolescents who do not react to the provocation test should consume the tested food regularly to prevent the occurrence of a symptomatic allergic reaction. Under the direction of Dr Thomas Eiwegger, the head of the Division of Paediatrics at the University Hospital St. Pölten, researchers investigated reasons and barriers to the introduction or non-introduction of tested foods in patients up to 18 years of age. The survey was conducted at Sick Kids Hospital in Canada and the results are published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In Practice.
