External influencing factors on missed care in Austrian hospitals Haupt-Reiter

The project Missed Nursing Care in Austria surveys and describes the actual state of omitted, aborted or delayed nursing activities in general wards of Austrian hospitals. More than 1000 nurses participated in the questionnaire survey. In the theoretical model, antecedents of omitted nursing interventions are assigned to four categories: patients' demand, available human resources, material resources and communication and relationship factors. The data sets collected from 427 cases using the revised MISSCARE questionnaire were now qualitatively analysed for the influence of the above four antecedents on missed care in order to gain a deeper understanding of the phenomenon. Ana Valente Dos Sonatos Cartaxo, MSc and Prof Dr Hanna Mayer from the Department of Nursing Sciences with a focus on Person-Centred care research are the main responsibles for this project.
The work was funded by the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
