An ex vivo Model of Paired Cultured Hippocampal Neurons

... for Bi-directionally Studying Synaptic Transmission and Plasticity

Recent publication

Dr Ruslan Stanika and Professor Gerald Obermair, both from the Division of Physiology, published a protocol for the preparation of two mouse brain neurons (hippocampal neurons) in the journal "bio-protocol". The method allows improved analysis of synaptic transmission and plasticity. The ex-vivo model is described in detail and therefore other researchers can use and adapt it to study pre- and postsynaptic effects on signal transduction.
