As part of the "Future Workshop "Education in Old Age" on 27 February 2024, around 25 researchers and practitioners from the field of "Education in Old Age" met at the Karl Landsteiner University on Campus Krems under the direction of Dr Vera Gallistl from the Division of Gerontology and Health Research to discuss future challenges in this field.

The aim of the workshop was to work out and discuss what role the future will play for education in old age and what future challenges are relevant to education in old age.

The experts addressed the following questions, among others:

  • How does education in old age shape the future and how do we shape the future of education in old age?
  • What visions of the future play a role in education in old age?
  • What issues arise with regard to the future of education in old age?

The workshop took place as an open discussion and reflection space in which statements from the invited experts were discussed and specific topics were developed in small groups. As a practical result of the workshop, a working paper is being drafted that presents central theses on the future of education in old age and will be published.

The event was organised with the kind support of the Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection.
