At the annual meeting of the Austrian Society of Cardiology, doctors from the Clinical Division of Internal Medicine 3 at the University Hospital of St. Pölten spoke about the need to set thresholds for the diagnosis of aortic valve calcification not according to gender but depending on the aortic valve size. The session Structural Cardiologists-State of the Art took place on the 2nd of June 2023. The scientists refer to an evaluation of 446 patients with aortic stenosis. The degree of valve calcification has a major influence on aortic valve stenosis. Even a low degree of calcification is sufficient for severe stenosis in smaller valves. The abstract of the presentation was published in the “Wiener Klinische Wochenschrift”, “The Central European Journal of Medicine”, Open Access.
