18th Maimonides Lectures. Medical Humanities. Doctors at the bedside of religious patients

SFor 10 years, the Maimonides Lectures have been dedicated to the continuous and substantive dialogue between the sciences and the Abrahamic religions. In the spirit of the physician, philosopher and scholar Mosche ben Maimon, they encounter the Jewish, Christian and Islamic traditions in a joint endeavour of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, the Abrahamic religious communities of Austria and the Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences, thanks to the support and under the patronage of the Office of the Lower Austrian Provincial Government (projects K3-F-730/001-2017 and K3-F-730/006-2022). The Vienna-Krems University of Teacher Education and the Christian-Jewish Coordination Committee in Austria are also partners in the project.

On 22 May (17:00 - 20:00) and 23 May (10:00 - 18:15), the 18th Maimonides Lectures on the topic of Medical Humanities. Doctors at the bedside of religious patients will take place in the KL ballroom. The lectures, led by Dr Patrizia Giampieri-Deutsch and Dr Hans-Dieter Klein, are dedicated to the difficult task of listening to and understanding the subjective ideas of religious patients about illness, life and the end of life, among other things. The ability to listen, to hear with the "third ear", makes it possible to understand the person being treated and makes it possible to understand patients in today's multi-confessional world.

KL students receive 0.5 ECTS points for participating in this course as a compulsory elective.
