Sport- und Bewegungsmedizin

Department of Sports and Exercise Medicine

Mission Statement

Sports and exercise medicine investigates how exercise and training can maintain health, prevent illness and positively influence the course of chronic conditions. Our aim is to develop evidence-based, personalised and sustainable exercise interventions and integrate them into clinical care in order to bring about lasting improvements in individual health, the quality of care and public health.

Physical exercise triggers complex biological adaptation processes that have a significant impact on health, performance and the progression of disease. Research into these mechanisms forms the basis for the development of innovative exercise interventions, which are investigated using modern laboratory-based diagnostics, cardiac function measurements and digital health applications. The aim is to develop, evaluate and implement personalised exercise interventions for metabolic, cardiovascular and oncological conditions, taking into account clinical, health economic and societal implications.
