Department Health Psychology
Mission Statement
Our mission is to generate scientific knowledge that promotes health, wellbeing and social participation for everyone. We focus in particular on vulnerable and marginalised groups, whose perspectives we bring to the fore through participatory and inclusive research.
The work carried out in the Department of Health Psychology generates scientific insights that promote the health, well-being and social participation of all people, particularly those from vulnerable and marginalised population groups. This includes, amongst others, people with intellectual, mental or physical disabilities, the very elderly, and people in socio-economically disadvantaged circumstances. Their perspectives are brought to light through participatory and inclusive research, by adopting a holistic approach to health and giving equal consideration to physical, mental and social dimensions. The aim is to contribute to reducing health inequalities and to support the development of equitable, accessible and sustainable health and care systems in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
The programme in the Department of Health Psychology provides students with a sound understanding of the psychological determinants of health, health behaviour, and health-related decision-making and change processes. Students gain insights into key areas of research and application in health psychology and learn to apply scientific findings to current challenges in the healthcare sector.
