Mission Statement
Cell biology conducts interdisciplinary research into cellular processes in homeostasis, disease and regeneration. It investigates the biochemical basis of cellular functions in the context of the entire organism and its exposome, thereby making significant contributions to our understanding of disease mechanisms and environmental adaptations.
The musculoskeletal system functions as a functional unit in which each individual component is irreplaceable. In our group, we conduct comparative studies on the development and regeneration of the musculoskeletal system. We are particularly interested in progenitor and stem cells in muscle, connective tissue and adipose tissue. We investigate how different cell types in these tissues are specified during development, the interaction between these cells and tissues, and how they change in certain diseases. Our goal is to use basic research to better understand regenerative processes and, in the long term, to promote them in a targeted manner and prevent degenerative processes.
