Career perspectives

Successful completion of the bachelor programme is a prerequisite for entry to the Psychology master programme. However, graduates are not awarded the professional title of psychologist, nor are they qualified to practise as independent psychologists in the meaning of the Austrian Psychologists Act. Graduates are qualified to work in clinical psychology as employees under professional supervision.

The programme is geared towards the development of the specific professional competences and core skills that can be applied in various areas of activity. It also provides graduates with the professional skills required to work in the related fields of psychosocial research, psychosocial statistics, psychotherapy and counselling services. The programme therefore provides a foundation for advanced education and training in psychotherapy that meets the requirements of Austrian and German law.

Entry to the Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy Master Programme in Germany. Completion of the Psychology Bachelor programme at Karl Landsteiner University enables direct entry into the Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy Master programme in Germany.

The reform of psychotherapy education in Germany stipulates that students who wish to pursue a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy after completing a Bachelor's degree in Psychology must complete a specific range of content and a prescribed amount of courses. This prepares them for the later profession of psychotherapist already during their Bachelor's studies. (Gesetz zur Reform der Psychotherapeutenausbildung, Bundesgesetzblatt Jahrgang 2019 Teil I Nr. 40, ausgegeben zu Bonn am 22. November 2019).

The curriculum of the polyvalent Psychology Bachelor programme at KL has been revised in accordance with the new requirements for psychotherapy education in Germany and, in its current form, meets the admission requirements for the Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy Master programme in Germany.

Upon completion of the Psychology Bachelor programme at KL, students starting in the winter semester 2021/22 will have the opportunity to enter not only a Psychology Master programme in Germany, but also directly into Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy Master programme. All prescribed contents and extents of courses for direct entry are already integrated.
We will be happy to inform you personally about further details regarding the combination of the Psychology Bachelor programme at KL at Campus Krems with the Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy Master programme in Germany (admission@kl.ac.at).
