Storage of research data in repositories

Archiving Research Data in Repositories

Ensuring that research data are findable and accessible in the long term is a core principle of Good Scientific Practice. When preparing research proposals and publishing research results, it is generally mandatory to provide evidence of the sustainable storage of research data.
As a general principle, KL is committed to the internationally established FAIR principles for the handling of research data (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable). In individual cases, legal or organisational circumstances may justify restrictions on compliance with the FAIR principles. The guiding principle applies: “As open as possible, as closed as necessary.”

ZENODO - Community Account of KL

KL operates a Community Account for Zenodo, the EU-funded, interdisciplinary research data repository, and provides support for using this platform. On Zenodo, up to 50 GB of data can be uploaded free of charge. Please note that, for data protection reasons, the storage of personal research data—including pseudonymised data relating to research participants—is not permitted. If Zenodo does not meet the specific requirements of your discipline, the database re3data offers a useful resource for identifying alternative repositories.

Please note that prior to using repositories to store data collected in the course of university research activities, a legal clarification with the responsible KL units is mandatory. Information on this process can be obtained by contacting the IT Coordinator of the Research Management Unit.

The terms of use, including the defined user roles and associated responsibilities, are outlined in the accompanying document.
To use the KL ZENODO community account, the relevant form must be completed in full and submitted to the IT coordinator of the Research Management Unit.
