Timing and outcome prediction of intravenous thrombolysis in posterior circulation stroke : Insights from the Austrian Stroke Unit Registry
Recent Publication
Dr. Alexander Tinchon from the Division of Neurology at St. Pölten University Hospital is the lead author of a large Austria-wide study on the treatment of strokes in the posterior circulation of the brain. The researchers analyzed data from over 11,000 patients from the Austrian Stroke Unit Registry to find out how the timing of treatment with intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) influences the treatment outcome. They were able to show that IVT is also effective in this less frequently studied form of stroke - and the earlier it is administered, especially in the first two hours after the onset of symptoms, the better. It was striking that women received IVT less frequently and had worse outcomes overall, although they had similar chances to men when treated.
