Response-guided bulevirtide ± pegylated interferon alfa-2a : long-term outcomes observed in the nationwide Austrian hepatitis D cohort study
Recent Publication
An Austria-wide cohort study on hepatitis D shows promising long-term results of modern therapy with bulevirtide. The Division of Internal Medicine II at University Hospital St. Pölten played a key role in the study. Bulevirtide is a drug that prevents the hepatitis D virus from entering liver cells, while interferon supports the immune system in specifically combating viruses. In many patients, the treatment led to a significant and sustained reduction in viral load as well as improvements in liver values and inflammatory parameters. If the response was insufficient, the additional administration of interferon was able to further enhance the effect and in some cases even opened up the possibility of ending the therapy after stable success.
