People with type 2 diabetes can benefit from digital support - as shown by a study with Univ.-Prof. PD Mag. Dr Stefan Steiger (Department of Psychological Methodology) and Prim. Clin. Ass. Prof. Dr Martin Wiesholzer (Division of Internal Medicine I, University Hospital St. Pölten). To this end, 68 patients received either the usual therapy or additional help via a chat service with peer support for seven months, followed by a further observation phase. The evaluation showed no effect on blood glucose levels or daily self-management routines, but a significant improvement in quality of life in both groups.
