In this study, people from slums and rural areas around Bengaluru were asked about their perceptions of health and their experiences with the healthcare system. For them, health primarily means having no complaints, being able to work and leading a healthy lifestyle. Particularly important to them are trustworthy doctors, clean facilities, fast treatment and affordable costs. It was noticeable that there is often a stigma surrounding health in rural areas. Dr. Keerthi Dubbala MBBS MPH and Dr. Wanda Stahl MSc Bakk BA from the Division of Biomedical Ethics and Healthcare Ethics were instrumental in this work.
