Open Applications for PhD Positions
Karl Landsteiner University is inviting outstanding early-career researchers to apply for several PhD projects within its international Doctoral School. Applications are now open for research projects in the fields of Mental Health and Neuroscience and Tumor Biology.
The Doctoral School offers talented graduates the opportunity to pursue a research career in an international and interdisciplinary environment. The available PhD projects address pressing questions in neuroscience, mental health, and cancer research under the supervision of experienced scientists.
PhD Programme Mental Health and Neuroscience
The PhD programme Mental Health and Neuroscience explores the biological, psychological, and societal foundations of mental health and disease, as well as the functioning of the human nervous system. Research focuses on improving the understanding, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of neurological and psychiatric disorders through innovative interdisciplinary approaches.
PhD Programme Tumor Biology
The PhD programme Tumor Biology investigates the molecular mechanisms that drive cancer development and progression. Research projects focus on personalised medicine, ranging from the identification of novel biomarkers to the development of innovative therapeutic strategies aimed at improving patient care.
Doctoral candidates become part of interdisciplinary research teams, benefit from state-of-the-art research infrastructure, and follow a structured doctoral training programme designed to prepare them for independent scientific careers while contributing to advances in health sciences.
Applications are open until 31 August 2026. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interviews in Krems in late September, with projects expected to start in October 2026. Applicants should hold a relevant Master's or Diploma degree and demonstrate an excellent command of English.
