A Novel Percutaneous Technique for Coaxial Treatment of Large Coronary Vessel Perforations—The RIP (Rip and Inflate in Perforations) Technique

A new publication from the Department of Internal Medicine 3 at St. Pölten University Hospital presents a practical development for emergency situations in the cardiac catheterisation laboratory. If a major vessel is injured during an intervention on the coronary arteries, every minute counts because the haemorrhage must be stopped quickly. The RIP technology co-developed by OA Dr Maximilian Will and OA Dr Konstantin Schwarz PhD addresses precisely this issue: It should enable doctors to stabilise the affected area more quickly using existing standard instruments and then provide targeted treatment. Initial tests and clinical applications have shown that the approach is easy to implement and can make the procedure less time-consuming.
