A normativity mapping review on end-of-life care in long-term care institutions by authors from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland

What do we actually mean by good end-of-life care in care facilities? A new review study involving Assistant Professor Dr Ingrid Metzler, University Professor Dr Hanna Mayer, University Professor Dr Giovanni Rubeis and Dr Jasmin Eppel-Meichlinger BScN MSc sheds light on precisely this - from a normative perspective. In their ‘normativity mapping review’, the authors analysed relevant specialist articles from Germany, Austria and Switzerland and showed how differently values and recommendations for action are interpreted in the context of dying and care. What is particularly interesting is that the study identifies two fundamental poles - a procedural one, which focuses on standardised tools, and a substantive one, which focuses on the moral competencies and sensitivity of carers.
