Nationwide treatment patterns and outcomes of localised soft tissue sarcoma in Austria : real-world data from the Austrian Sarcoma Registry

An Austria-wide registry study with the participation of Dr Hossein Taghizadeh MSc PhD from the Department of Internal Medicine 1 at University Hospital St. Pölten is investigating how soft tissue sarcomas are treated in Austria and which factors influence the course of the disease. Soft tissue sarcomas are rare tumours of the connective, muscle or fatty tissue, which is why detailed treatment data is particularly important. The evaluation of the Austrian Sarcoma Registry shows that surgery in combination with radiotherapy was associated with better chances of survival, while additional chemotherapy did not show a clear advantage for all patients. Age, tumour size, aggressiveness of the tumour and whether the tumour could be completely removed were also particularly decisive for the prognosis.
