A national survey on gastroenterology and hepatology training reveals dissimilar perceptions between trainees and trainers and an important need for improvement in training programs

A recent national survey of specialists and those responsible for training in gastroenterology and hepatology shows clear differences in the perception of training quality. While department heads mostly rate the programs positively, many residents still see room for improvement - especially in practical skills such as endoscopy, ultrasound and the diagnosis of functional gastrointestinal diseases. There is agreement that external rotations and further specialization, for example in endoscopy, would be valuable additions. The study was led by the Division of Internal Medicine 2 at St. Pölten University Hospital and provides valuable insights into the further development of specialist training in these areas.
