Mismatch Between Preoperative MRI Findings and Postoperative Histological Results in the Treatment of Tenosynovial Giant Cell Tumor

Recent Publication

Researchers at Krems University Hospital have investigated how reliable MRI images really are in the diagnosis of rare giant cell tenosynovitis (TGCT). Although this joint disease often shows typical features on MRI images, the diagnosis was not subsequently confirmed by fine tissue analysis in almost a third of the patients who underwent surgery. The study is based on data from 52 people who underwent surgery between 1991 and 2019. Although the MRI showed suspicious findings in 29%, the subsequent histological examination did not reveal any TGCT.
