Magnetic resonance angiography in diagnostic long-term follow-up of primary patency of the MOTIV drug-eluting bioresorbable vascular scaffold in the region below the knee : 5 years of experience

Recent Publication

Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) affects the blood circulation in the legs and can lead to pain and tissue damage. Treatments are often not successful in the long term, particularly below the knee, as vessels quickly become blocked again. Metallic stents keep the arteries open, but prevent good imaging with magnetic resonance angiography (MR-A), which is important for diagnosis. A new bioresorbable stent (deBVS) dissolves within 3-4 years, allowing re-treatment if necessary. A retrospective study conducted by the UK Tulln in cooperation with the Medical University of Vienna shows that this stent remains clearly visible on MRI and that the vessels remain open in 87% of cases even after five years.
