Long-term impact of basin-wide wastewater management

... on faecal pollution levels along the entire Danube River

Recent publication

As part of the Joint Danube Survey (JDS), the faecal pollution levels along the entire Danube were recorded in four surveys between 2001 and 2019. The summary of the survey shows, on the one hand, how wastewater disposal could be improved and thus influence the faecal pollution of the Danube. There are differences between the upper, middle and lower Danube. The results are interesting in view of the possible EU accession of the Western Balkan countries. Infrastructure measures to improve water quality could be initiated by the EU.
