The Lesson of Sleeping Beauty : Person-Centred Care for the Unconscious, Unresponsive ICU Patient in the Face of Levinas' Radical Alterity
Recent Publication
Theresa Clement BSc MSc and Dr. Hanna Mayer, co-authors from the Division of Nursing Science with a focus on Person-Centred Care Research, address the question of how person-centred care is also possible for unconscious and unresponsive intensive care patients in a recent publication. As central characteristics of personhood - such as consciousness and communication - are not fulfilled in such situations, the implementation of person-centred approaches becomes a challenge. Together with their team, they draw on Emmanuel Levinas' ethics of radical otherness to open up new perspectives for dealing with these patients.
