Kardiologin Julia Mascherbauer mit Würdigungspreis des Landes NÖ ausgezeichnet

At the “Wissenschaftsgala” of the Province of Lower Austria on 14 October 2025, Prim. Prof. Dr Julia Mascherbauer, Head of the Department of Internal Medicine 3 at University Hospital St. Pölten, received the award for outstanding scientific achievements. The most important scientific awards of the state of Lower Austria were presented at Campus Krems for the first time this year.

Prim.a Univ.-Prof.in Dr Julia Mascherbauer began her academic career in the field of cardiology at the Medical University of Vienna. she was appointed Associate Professor there in 2009 before taking over as Head of the Department of Internal Medicine 3 at University Hospital St. Pölten, one of the teaching and research locations of Karl Landsteiner University, in 2021. The university hospital is one of the largest cardiovascular centres in Austria and performs the most interventional heart valve operations in the country every year.

In addition to her work in international research groups and the publication of highly regarded specialist articles, the award-winning physician is also involved in numerous clinical studies - which means that her knowledge directly benefits patients in Lower Austria.

 Under her leadership, clinical research at University Hospital St. Pölten has been greatly expanded. With over 200 peer-reviewed publications and 53 other papers written under her supervision by doctors in the department, she has made a significant contribution to the international recognition of scientific excellence in the Lower Austrian research landscape.

At the same time, it is also a confirmation and recognition that our efforts in the field of research are worthwhile. Appreciation Award: Honouring the overall scientific work

Since 1964, the province of Lower Austria has been honouring outstanding researchers whose work has made a significant contribution to the scientific independence of the province. The appreciation award honours the body of work of a scientist of supra-regional importance. The most important science awards of the state of Lower Austria were presented for the first time this year at Campus Krems.

Her outstanding scientific commitment and excellent research work are not only an asset to the University Hospital St. Pölten, but also a significant contribution to medical science far beyond Lower Austria," said Elisabeth Bräutigam, Chairwoman of the Lower Austrian LGA, delighted with the award.

Rector of Karl Landsteiner University Rudolf Mallinger also expressed his congratulations and thanks for the cardiologist's excellent work: "Prim.a Univ.-Prof.in Dr.in Julia Mascherbauer is not only an internationally renowned researcher in her specialist field. She is also a valued and successful mentor for young scientists. In this way, she makes a significant contribution to strengthening Lower Austria as a centre of research and to the science-led training of doctors in the province."
