Inspiration for perspiration? Two experiments testing the psychological effects of fitspiration
Recent Publication
Fitspiration images are ubiquitous - but what influence do they actually have? A new study shows that idealized depictions of athletic or hypermuscular bodies have little direct effect on young women's body satisfaction. In one experiment, exposure to hypermuscular images led to an increased intention to exercise in women with high body esteem. In a second experiment, no comparable effects were found. Co-author of the study is Dr. Marina Frederike Thomas from the Research Center Transitional Psychiatry.
