Inaugural lecture by Univ.-Prof. Mag. DDr. Klaus Podar

On Tuesday, 10 June 2025, the Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences (Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences) invited guests to attend the inaugural lecture of Univ.-Prof. Mag. DDr. Klaus Podar, Professor of Molecular Oncology and Haematology. In the auditorium on the Krems campus, Prof. Podar presented an impressive overview of his career and his vision of integrative cancer medicine under the title ‘FROM THE BENCH TO BEDSIDE AND BACK: HOW TO BECOME A PHYSICIAN-SCIENTIST – When research and clinical practice go hand in hand in oncology/haematology.’

Building bridges between science, teaching and healthcare

As Head of the Department of Molecular Oncology and Haematology at Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences, Prof. Podar pursues a clear interdisciplinary approach: close cooperation between research groups, university hospitals and young researchers aims to achieve excellence in biomedical research, education and patient care. His international experience – including at Harvard Medical School and Heidelberg University Medical Centre – has had a significant influence on this work.

Guests, welcoming addresses and laudatory speech

The guests were welcomed by Prof. Rudolf Mallinger, Rector of the Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences. The laudatory speech was given by Prof. Suzanne Lentzsch, Professor of Medicine and Director of the Multiple Myeloma and Amyloidosis Service at Columbia University Medical Centre in New York.

In addition to numerous colleagues, family members and long-time companions, students who have accompanied Prof. Podar on his journey or followed his career were also in attendance. The event concluded in a pleasant atmosphere with drinks and sandwiches.
