Healthcare providers' awareness and management of cardiovascular risks in women with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and gestational diabetes

Many people are unaware that certain complications during pregnancy - such as gestational diabetes or gestational hypertension - significantly increase the risk of cardiovascular disease later in life. A recent study from the UK St. Pölten has investigated how well informed healthcare professionals are about this connection. Although there is a general awareness of the risk, there are clear gaps in knowledge, particularly with regard to aftercare. Many affected women are neither actively informed about possible late effects nor about preventative measures, and written recommendations are rare.
