Focal Therapy Using High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound for Low- and Intermediate-Risk Prostate Cancer: Results from a Prospective, Multicenter Feasibility Trial

A new study led by OA Dr Gabor Rosta from the Division of Urology and Andrology at University Hospital St. Pölten shows that prostate cancer can be treated in a targeted and gentle manner using ultrasound. Only the tumour is irradiated - healthy tissue remains intact. 51 men with low or medium risk were followed for two years. Most of them needed no further treatment and the cancer was often no longer detectable. Side effects were minimal and quality of life remained stable.
