Evaluating physicians' knowledge of assisted suicide and palliative sedation therapy in Austria : An exploratory survey study
Recent Publication
The results of this study from the university hospitals in Krems and St. Pölten make it clear how important sound knowledge about medical options at the end of life is - not only for doctors, but also for society as a whole. Since the legalization of assisted suicide, the question of how people can be supported in the best possible way during this sensitive phase has become increasingly important. In the study, palliative care physicians in particular were found to be well informed and confident in dealing with palliative sedation and the legal framework. This underlines how valuable specialized training and further education in medicine is in order to enable seriously ill people to have a dignified and well-accompanied end of life.
