The epithelial barrier theory and its associated diseases
Recent publication
The epithelial barrier is a protective layer of cells that separates tissues and organs in the body and protects them from external influences. A new review of epithelial barrier theory examines how damage to this barrier, in combination with an unbalanced microbiome and chronic inflammation, can favour the development and exacerbation of various diseases. This study provides valuable insights into how important an intact epithelial barrier is for our health and what risks arise from its damage. Prim. Assoc.
