The emerging role of Artificial Intelligence in proton therapy

Proton therapy is a specialised treatment for cancer. An international group of researchers has summarised 76 studies in a review that deal with the application of AI in proton therapy. Professor Dr Piero Fossati, MD from MedAustron and head of the Division of Radiation Oncology was one of the authors. The paper describes the development of AI applications in proton therapy, their advantages and future goals and was published in the journal ‘Critical Reviews in Oncology/Hematology’.
