The so-called "theory of mind" describes the ability to empathise with others - in other words, to recognise what someone is thinking or feeling. A new study from the Department of Clinical Psychology has investigated the extent to which this ability depends on the other person. The results showed that when test subjects were asked to assess people of the same sex, they performed worse. The results show that the gender of the person portrayed also plays a role in social perception tests.
