Comparing the portrayal of #autism and #neurodiversity on TikTok: creators, content, and representation
Recent Publication
In a recent study published in the Wiener Medizinische Wochenschrift, researchers from the Research Center Transition Psychiatry investigated how autism is portrayed on TikTok. The analysis of the 100 most viewed videos with the hashtags #autism and #neurodiversity shows: While #autism videos are primarily entertaining and achieve the most views, #neurodiversity posts focus more on education - but reach a smaller audience. The low ethnic diversity, the frequent depiction of children and the lack of health professionals in the popular #autism sample are striking. The publication is based on a bachelor's thesis by Yvette Annabel Pintér, who made a significant contribution to the creation of the paper.
